Home Brit. Virgin Islands St Lucia Bassin d' Arcachon Sailing Links

In 2003 we sailed at St Lucia in the Caribbean, whilst there for David and Lynne's wedding. We chartered a Beneteau 386 from Moorings at Marigot Bay and sailed up and down the coast of the island, taking either Jennie and Ian or David and Lynne out with us. We stayed on the boat for a week, with half a week of hotel (at the Jalousie Hilton) at each end.

We went into Rodney Bay in the north, where Jennie and Ian were staying at the Rex St Lucian, and Jalousie in the south, where David & Lynne stayed. The wind off the west coast of St Lucia is affected by the mountains and can be strong and very variable, and when we moored off the beach at Jalousie the wind was pretty extreme. But the sailing and the sunshine made up for this and the boat was in good condition, so we had a great time.

There are some sailing pictures of our visit on our St Lucia page here

This picture is of Sopers Hole in Tortola, our base in the British Virgin Islands.

Although we love sailing (well Rhys does, Jean comes along and enjoys it so long as the weather's hot and there are good facilities - like an air-conditioned hotel - close at hand) we don't have a boat of our own, so we charter. This has the advantage of being able to go somewhere different every time, and we have been members of a couple of clubs where we have been able to go crewing with other members.

In December 2002 Rhys did his 'Coastal Skipper' course in Gibraltar - quite exciting, especially the blind navigation! He had brilliant weather - warm, sunny and breezy.  This picture was taken on the way back to the rock after doing exercises off the Spanish coast - in December!

We generally charter cruising yachts around 30 - 35ft in length, and have sailed in the Solent in England, at Arcachon in south west France, in the Greek Isles in the Ionian Sea, and of course in the Caribbean. Wonderful stuff!
