Beautiful group of islands in the Caribbean Sea. Good weather most of the year, but can get unsettled about September when it's hurricane season! We went in June 1999 and had hot, fine, windy weather with a very few, very short showers. Most sailing from island to island is straightforward line of sight, as you can see from the picture below. There are only a few marinas - 'docks' - and most people anchor or moor in a sheltered bay each night. Dinghy ashore for meals, drinks etc., which was great fun but not very comfortable for ladies in posh frocks!
This picture is of many of the islands taken during a regatta a few years ago. Tortola on the left, the other islands ahead. We went with Sunsail and spent one week 'on flotilla' and another week 'bareboat'. Our yacht was a Hunter 336 (same as Legend in the UK) - quite spacious and sailed remarkably well, despite having to tow a big dinghy with us all the time. The flotilla week gave us a good idea where to go and how things worked, and the bareboat week gave us the opportunity to revisit our favourite places. Tops was Virgin Gorda. A special highlight of the trip was snorkelling - in beautiful clear water teaming with fish over the coral reefs. We didn't get to Anegada though, so we need to go back again! The BVI weather was constantly windy - 20 knots & more the whole time, but sunny and very hot. The best thing about the holiday was "Islan' time" - which runs a whole lot slower than we're used to, and very welcome for that. We also enjoyed a few nights in air-conditioned hotel rooms during our stay. Needless to say we wanted to go sailing in the Caribbean again, and David and Lynne's wedding in St Lucia provided the opportunity. BVI Links
